Restaurants and food to take away
There are a great many restaurants in the area and a large percentage of them are high quality and relatively inexpensive. For example, English, Indian, Chinese, Italian, and French cuisines are all available, as are takeaway pizzas, falafels, burgers, kebabs and traditional British Fish and Chips.
You may also want to buy snacks or eat something other than the above. In Forest Row, the village where you may well choose to stay, there are three organic farms. One provides top quality organic meat and poultry – on Saturdays they offer inexpensive and delicious hamburgers straight from the grill with fresh salads. Another provides super quality dairy products and organic vegetables. There is also an organic shop that stocks fresh farm products in addition to other organic products, and an organic bakery and a microbiotic deli. You can shop at local supermarkets too, as well as stocking regular foods they also stock vegetarian, vegan, and other specialist foods.
Coffee shops and tea houses
Traditional English afternoon tea in an ancient house or beautiful hotel is a must do experience during your tour. It’s a lovely experience, something with a feel of the past to it, almost a traditional ceremony in a way, and it’s quintessentially English.
Pubs and Inns
The English country pub is a personal speciality area! Every village has at least one pub and there are plenty just scattered here and there in the middle of the countryside too, many of them are stunningly beautiful and old. I have been to quite a few of them over the years and will be delighted to take you to one or two of my favourites if you so wish.
